Altar Society

The purpose of the St. Luke Altar Society is to take care of the altar, altar linens, flowers, candles, and making of baptismal bibs.

ORGANIZATION:
The Altar Society is organized into "areas" designated by geographical boundaries within the parish. These areas hold monthly neighborhood meetings to channel information from the Society Board and the Parish. The Altar Society Board (officers, committee and area chairwomen) meets on the first Thursday of each month at 10:00am, September through May. There are five officers: 1) President 2) 1st Vice President 3) 2nd Vice President 4) Recording and Corresponding Secretary 5) Treasurer.

MEMBERSHIP:
All ladies of the parish are considered members. In January membership envelopes, a yearly financial statement, and a letter from the President are put into the Sunday bulletin for all the ladies. At this time membership dues in the amount of $5.00 are requested.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EM)

Ministers are selected and appointed as the need exists. The primary purpose of Eucharistic Ministers in parish communities is to assist the Priests and Deacons) in the following circumstances:

  • As participation at the masses increase, a corresponding increase in communion occurs. The EM's aid in Communion distribution to avoid prolonged time during masses.
  • In large parishes, there are sizeable numbers of sick and disabled people who cannot attend Sunday and Feast Day Masses. This ministry allows the Shut-ins to receive communion frequently and become a closer part in Community worship. In communities where the Eucharist is reserved the Eucharist Minister can distribute Communion in the absence of the Priest at prayer services and to the hospitalized and shut-ins in the area.

Finance Board

By definition the Finance Board is a consultative body of three to five persons, which assists the Pastor in the Administration of Church Property and Finances. Canon 537 specifies that all Parishes must have a Finance Board. All members are appointed by the Pastor from among the members of that Parish, to terms of office no longer than five years. According to the Archdiocesan guidelines the functions of the Parish Finance Board may include:
* Advising the Pastor on any major commitment of funds of parish resources for capital improvements of debt addition in excess of $7,500.00 before permission is requested of the Archbishop. * Advising the Pastor in the investments of parish funds.
* Fulfilling an active role in the preparation of the Parish Budget and its enforcement.
* Assisting in the formulation of the financial reports annually to the Archdiocese and regularly to the parish members.

NURSING HOMES
There are five Nursing Homes within the St. Luke's boundaries. Groups composed of volunteers serve the area homes. Mass is offered every Monday on a rotating schedule at a time scheduled to be convenient for the residents. The residents are entertained at Christmas with a party, and gifts are distributed at this time. Anyone interested in spiritually assisting the ill and infirmed is invited to join in the worthwhile endeavor. A smile or a warm hello brings such joy to those confined to nursing homes. Become active in this serving ministry!

BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY
Was developed to assist families in their time of need, to prepare the Scriptural readings and music for the funeral Mass of their loved one who has gone to be with their heavenly Father. Another part of this ministry is called upon to assist in the preparation of meals to be served in the parish center or delivered to the home.

HOSPITAL MINISTRY
The purpose of the Hospital ministry is to pay visits to our parishioners' who are sick and/or dying, to pray and give comfort to them in their time of need. We also give Communion to them and their families if requested.

Stephen Ministry

The Stephen Ministry was established here at St. Luke's during the summer of 1987. Stephen Ministry is being re-established and re-energized as of 2004. Currently St. Luke's has seven active Stephen Leaders and approximately 10 active ministers.
St. Stephen became the first lay minister when the Apostles called on him to ease their work in caring for the needs of their early congregation (Acts 6:1-6).
There continue to be many more needs for ongoing, one-to-one care than pastors can effectively meet by themselves. Stephen Ministry is a Biblical solution — equipping God’s people to extend that care.
An invitation is extended to all Christian men and women who wish to volunteer their time and concerns to those in need.
